Tour de Dirt 2002 Rules
Tour de Dirt 2002 is the official
National Off-Road Bicycle Association (NORBA) Oklahoma State Mountain Bike
Championship Series. All events
are required to follow the guidelines established by NORBA for License and
Classification, Equipment Requirements and Racing Regulations (refer to the
NORBA Competitive Guidelines). Races
in the series will be officiated by a paid NORBA Official who is current and
in good standing with the governing body.
Licensure:
All competitors are required to hold a
current NORBA annual license or purchase a one-day license at each event. Competitors must present their license and picture ID to the
registration personnel at sign up. New
for 2002, Beginner, Sport, and
Experts may purchase a one-day license at any event for $5.
Riders who wish to be eligible for NORBA state, regional and national
champion titles must hold a NORBA annual license.
However, to continue to encourage participation and bring new riders to
our sport, Beginner riders who race on a one-day license will
be eligible for Tour de Dirt points.
Sport and Expert riders who race on a one-day license will not
be awarded points for the Tour de Dirt 2002 series.
Series Regulations:
Championship points will be calculated for
each racer using their best nine (9) of thirteen (13) series races. Competitors must compete in a minimum of six (6) events to be
eligible for trophies and prize giveaways at the end of the season.
Championship Series Trophies will be awarded to the top three (3)
finishers in each category who meet the required minimum.
Should a tie occur at the end of the
series the tie will be broken in the following manner:
1) total number of 1st place finishes;
2) total number of 2nd place finishes,
etc.
Series Points:
Points will be awarded according to NORBA standards and

Individual
promoters may, at their own discretion, combine classes to allow for more
competitive racing. However,
points will be applied to each category for the series per the NORBA
classification.
Category Upgrading/Downgrading:
Upgrading will be permitted and encouraged
following the guidelines established by NORBA.
The presiding NORBA official at an event may upgrade a competitor’s
license. Competitors who choose to upgrade during the series may not carry
over their accumulated points after completing four (4) series events.
Downgrading will be permitted following
the guidelines established by NORBA. Any competitor who feels they have
advanced too quickly may petition NORBA for a category downgrade.
Refer to NORBA Competition Guidelines for proper procedures.
Competitors who downgrade during the series will not be allowed to carry
over their accumulated points into a lower category.
Scoring:
Scoring actually begins with each
competitor completing the registration form. It is recommended that all
competitors print registration information to ensure their name is
properly spelled on scoring sheets. Competitors
should be consistent in using the same name for registration at all series
events to ensure points are accumulated correctly.
Event scoring must not be interfered with.
Competitors completing an event should follow finishing instructions and
then move immediately away from the finish area to allow others competitors
to complete their race. Competitors
are required to complete an entire event to qualify for points in the
series. If a competitor fails
to complete an event for any reason no points will be awarded and that
competitor will be shown as DNF (Did Not Finish) in the race results.
A DNF may count forward the minimum number of races required to be
competitive in the series. Any
competitor not finishing an event should report their race number and reason
to the event staff.
Race promoters will announce when finish
results have been posted. There
will be a fifteen (15) minute protest period in which racers may identify
discrepancies to the presiding NORBA official.
Protests must be stated during this period!
After protests and discrepancies have been resolved the race results
will be announced as final. No
changes can be made after this protest period.
Results will be accumulated for the series, posted at each event, and
forwarded electronically to NORBA.
Competitor Regulations:
Competitors must exhibit respect and
patience to all race event staff. Competitors
are expected and required to display proper etiquette at all times before,
during and after an event. They
are expected and required to display proper trail etiquette while competing.
Announce yourself when overtaking another competitor and pass when it
is safe to do so. The burden of
safety is on the passing rider. Show courtesy to event staff and other competitors.
Anyone displaying improper behavior will be subject to
disqualification subject to ruling by the presiding NORBA official.
Any competitor who fails to adhere to
series or event rules and regulations can be disqualified from an event or
the series.
