MidWest Summit road trip (March 2002)

Day 2 - Kansas City, MI - Landahl Trail and
a freak Bike Derby...

Second Stop; Landahl Trail just East of Kansas City, MI. After driving from Emporia, KS, met up with Mark and Lora from IMBA and spend a few hours on this great trail. It offers something for everyone; fast open sections, tight and twisty stuff and a good amount of rocks and roots. We spent most of our time on the West side where the more technical riding takes place (safely located behind the shooting range :-) Anyway, we all had a great time... Spring time...

So after the ride we checked into our hotel, where Walt was meeting up with us, and we prepared for the first MidWest Summit event; a night ride bike derby. The temperature was dropping fast and only James, Mark and Walt felt the need to hang with the freaks and geeks that showed up. I'm telling you, this was quite a bizar group of riders :-) The non-riders decided to act as support crue. We followed the riders while they were riding on streets, through storm drains and park type trails. We lost them once or twice but did locate them again. When the temperature dropped to 22F, camelbaks froze and the bikes start flying, our riders decided to bail. They were very happy to see us waiting to load up their bikes and head back to a warm hotel...
