March 31st, 2004; update on the Seqyoyah National Park hiking/biking trails:
3 1/2 miles of single track are currently maintained in the Sequoyah State Park by volunteers, with the grateful support of park managment. The trail is a multiuser hiking/biking trail, mostly beginner to intermediate, appropriate for nearly all ages and abilities. The park is full of wildlife where it is not uncommon to see heard of deer on almost every outing. The area is thick with pine and has a well draining soil composition with flint rock. The organizer currently maintaining the trails is hoping to get the word out, the trail needs riders! If you'd like more information or are interested in organizing a group ride, camping, or just visiting a quiet, beautiful Oklahoma state park, please contact Don Baily at baileyd@unionps.org and let him know the OEF was how you heard about the trails.
Neal Schneider Sent this 1997 report.
Late August 97, we went to pay a visit to Sequoyah State Park and got to ride around on some of their trails. They were very well marked and the ranger station has maps of the trails in the park. I scanned in the map and did some substantial retouching to it. Unlike so many other places that have banned biking on their trails, they have set aside many of the trail for us mud slingers. Overall, the trails weren't as technically challenging as Draper or Anderson, but did have quite a few lengthy grades. Good for building endurance.
The trails evidently did not have much use. I never saw anyone else out the entire time I was out there, and only saw one or two other tracks. Warning: Loads of spider webs all over (I guess since there is not much traffic to keep them clear) Here is an excerpt from their brochure and map:
