Safety talk by Walt around 9 AM...
The Group
Proposed route of switchback in the newer section (south loop). Problem is the steep side slope which requires a large crib-wall to create the space for the 16ft diameter switchback.
The pictures make it look flat and easy.
Reclaiming the old trail by tearing it up and replanting trees, cacti, etc.
The first rocks placed for the crib wall. Walt is mashing rocks to reinforce the wall.
First row of rocks.
Filling in the space with smaller rocks that are pounded to pieces with sledge hammers.
After the first layer of rocks is covered with dirt the second row of large rocks is put in place.
Second row of the crib wall.
After the second row of large rocks, small rocks and dirt we start a third...
Almost there... covering up more rocks with dirt. We now have a solid foundation.
Nice wall...
Upper part of the trail.
Cool inslope on the upper trail to let water flow of the trail away from the turn section.
We replanted a tree and cacti to prevent short-cutting of the turn...
Finished around 7 PM... |
