OEF Workday @ Roman Nose State Park 08/24/2003
On August 24th 10 brave trail workers met at Roman Nose State Park to finish one of the
last projects before our 24 Hour Race. The
goal was to replace an almost 40 degree fall-line section with a more modest 10-20 degree bench-cut
section. Work started at 8 AM (we're not scared of the heat but we're not stupid!) and after
numerous breaks we finished around 3 PM, just before the temperature hit 100F.
The new trail is twice is long as the section that we closed, and more importantly, should flow
in both directions. Climbing up this section will be a serious challenge, riding down it should
be fun because of the interesting turns and the speed you could pick up along the way. Please
make sure not to lock your brakes on the way down, let the new section pack down first and
toughen up a bit!
After the workday we lowered our core temperature by spending some time in the pool at the Park
which was followed by some Excellent Mexican food in town...
I would like to thank these fine folks for showing up and giving back to the sport we
all love:
Charles Duke
Candy Joubert
Martin Joubert
Peter Singleton
Carla Morris
Randy Burghart
Stephanie Burghart
Tyler Burghart
Shane Jones
These individuals know how to move dirt and build new trail! You can be one of those
people too. I know, you are all too shy to hang with us and that's why you stay home but there
is no need to be scared, just show up at one of our workdays...

the goal of this workday was to replace this very steep fall-line
section with something that will be fun to ride up and down, and will
last longer than this rut...

You Should Consider Giving Them A Try...
NOTE: new bench-cut trails look like highways in the beginning but the green stuff
will grow back quickly and a single track trail will form once riders pack down the
new section...
THE END!
