OEF Trails Access
OEF Workday @ Roman Nose State Park 06/21/2003
The 3rd of several major undertakings, by the OEF, at Roman Nose is
complete. This past Saturday, we spent all of the morning hours and several
of the early afternoon hours constructing a bypass around the infamous "Rock
Garden". For those of you who love the rock garden, fear not, the rock
garden IS NOT being closed and taken out of the loop. You merely now have
the option of either testing your skills on the rock garden or can choose to
bypass it. Rest assured, the bypass, by no means is a piece of cake. You
will still be climbing to the same elevation as the top of the rock garden,
with little or no resting points along the way. The bypass is a 300+ foot,
full-length bench cut with a constant grade to the top, a couple of fairly
radical exposure points, and a sweet crib wall corner in the middle.
Dealing with rain during the morning hours and extreme heat and humidity in
the afternoon hours, the construction crew busted their humps to get the
bypass on line. Some sections of the new bench cut were difficult to cut
(due to the amount of rock buried in the soil) and will probably need some
additional touch up in the near future. It is our intention to do just that,
maybe you can come lend a hand.
On behalf of myself, and the OEF, I say "Thanks" to the following
individuals for their dedication and determination in getting Saturday's
bypass project completed:
Peter Singleton
Ron Roquemore
Brent Barton
James Perry
Max Cochran
Walt Brittain
Penny Russell
Candy Joubert
Martin Joubert
Shane Jones
Stephanie Burghart
Randy Burghart
Omar Vega
Jon Richardson
Marcel Slootheer
Charles Duke
An additional thanks goes out to Charles & Marcel for once again going that
extra mile, giving their time, and designing an excellent route for the
project.
Thank-You All,
Ward

Trailwork Tools Rule!
NOTE: new bench-cut trails look like highways in the beginning but the green stuff
will grow back quickly and a single track trail will form once riders pack down the
new section...
THE END!
