Bluff Creek OEF Trail Workday & Ride Feb 1st, 2003
For those of you who ride Bluff Creek on a regular basis, I'm sure you've
noticed the changes that were made this past Saturday. In an effort to stop
the problem of ever-widening trail around problem mud holes, we moved the
section of trail known as "Death Valley" up the hill. The new section of
trail now start at the "Enchanted Forest", follows along and crosses over
(several times) the ridge or berm that parallels the west double-track.
Moving it up the hill, and running it along the ridge should allow for much
better water drainage, and make the trail more sustainable and maintainable.
Once it gets beat in, the new section should be every bit as fast and
flowing as what we replaced. In addition we also added an additional piece
of trail to the end of the "Ho Chi Min" section of the trail. It to will be
fast and flowing when it's pack down.
I know we may have removed a section that some of you may have liked, so we
tried to make sure that we replaced it with trail that is just as fun. The
nature of the area in which the Bluff Creek trail resides, coupled with the
shear amount of use that the trail gets causes us to make changes from time
to time. The changes that we make are well thought out, followed IMBA
guidelines, and are only made out of necessity for the longevity and
maintainability of the trail.
The following folks put in 50+ hours of work in an effort to make the trail
better for us all:
Steve Ancik
Scott Johnson
Steve Ashmore
Randy Burghart
Kyle Bybee
Charles Duke
Tim Gritzmaker
Brett Hahn
James Hamm
Shane Jones
Robert Kincaid
James Perry
Marcel Slootheer
and
Larry Pickering
Thanks guys for your hard work and commitment to mountain biking in
Oklahoma.
Our next scheduled workday will be at Roman Nose on March 15th at 10:00a.m.
We'll be working on some sections in dire need of some TLC. Make plans now
to come out and lend a hand. More details to follow in the coming days.
Thanks again guys for you efforts on Saturday..
