OEF Workday @ Bluff Creek 01/24/04Report by Tim Gritzmaker, OEF Trail Access. The OEF conducted the first workday of the new year on Jan. 24th. It was a beautiful day and 19 intrepid workers hit the trail to tackle the work that lay ahead. Of the 19 there were 2 new souls; Ryan Delong and Kerri Hoefs, Welcome! It was a great day for trail work warm and humid. Charles Duke gathered the group together and explained what we were going to do. Charles also explained safety precautions that needed to be followed. The plan was Phase 2 of the Bluff Creek reroutes. Phase 1 was the benchcut and bridge. Old trail was to be reclaimed and a new trail build in a dry creekbed. The new section will be fast and very fun as you will ride the burms. Then you go into a fast right hander that leads to the existing trail. If you've had a chance to ride the new section I’m sure you had a smile on your face and had to go back and ride it over and over as I have done. Saturday Bluff had some root removal done. I know some of you are fighting mad because your favorite root has been removed. Then some of you will jump for joy because they are gone. I have had my eye on those roots for sometime and now they are gone. Sorry. The first trail workdays of the year have been completed. If you are feeling guilty for not being there, don’t fret, you have 11 more chances to pay your dues to the trail of your choice. Don’t forget there are some tasty rewards to the top 5 trail workers for the year. Our next trail day will be at Roman Nose State Park on February 21st. Make plans to attend.
