04/04/04 Cannondale Test Ride Day & Dr. Steve Benefit Ride

(or people having a great time @ NuDraper...)

Note from Chris @ Celestial Cycles:

First of all, thanks to the OEF for all their help in organizing yesterday's event. We couldn't have asked for better weather, and I'm sure more than a few people walked away with a sunburn.

For those of you who left early or didn't make it out you missed the biggest surprise of the day when Dr. Steve himself showed up. He didn't drive himself out there (thanks to his mom for that), but once there he got around pretty well on his own two feet and was quite lucid and excited to talk to everyone. The pain in his abdomen and chest is still pretty bad, he said, and that he'd hate to feel it without any painkillers.

We drew for over 100 prizes in the raffle and each one was claimed on the first try. That means that almost everyone who bought a ticket stuck around all day. I can't remember who gave me the three tickets to give to Dr. Steve, but two of them were winners. He got a new computer and a pair of OU socks. Over 250 people were there throughout the day ranging from expert racers to beginning riders to friends of Steve's just coming out to support him.

Thanks to Kay, Steve's sister, for bringing the t-shirts. There are plenty of "Crash Test Doctor" t-shirts left and they are paid for, so any more sold goes directly back into the Ian and Isabelle fund. The back of the shirt says "Bring it on Old Woman," which is what Dr. Steve was mumbling when the paramedics arrived. So, if you couldn't make it yesterday, I know some of you were under the impression that there was nothing better to do and went to the Bar H race, come by Celestial Cycles and pick up a t-shirt and continue to support the cause.

Dr. Steve was overwhelmed with how many people came out to support him and his family. He wants to thank each and every person involved for making this happen.
